December reset in Nyahururu: A Serene stay, Waterfalls, Castles and the Best Lamb Chops Ever!

Last December, we escaped the city and headed to Nyahururu for a quiet but meaningful getaway, a chance to take stock of 2025 and intentionally plan for 2026. We stayed at Panari Resort Nyahururu, and from the moment we arrived, the serenity of the place set the tone for reflection, rest, and reconnection.

Panari offered exactly what we needed: Calm surroundings, fresh highland air, and just enough activity to keep things fun. We were on half board, which meant flexibility to move around, stress-free mornings and evenings, and after dinner, our nights quickly turned competitive 😄. We played games every evening, but table tennis stole the show for real, lots of laughter, friendly rivalries, and unforgettable moments.

Wanting to explore beyond the resort, we ventured out to Thompson Falls, one of Kenya’s most iconic natural landmarks. The trail down to the falls was a workout in the best way – We definitely got our steps in – but the reward was worth every breath. The scenic views, the thunder of the water, and the lush greenery made the experience grounding and refreshing. It was one of those moments where nature reminds you to slow down and simply be present-  https://youtube.com/shorts/_2F6KI_ZVWY

On our third day, we checked out and made one final stop before heading back to the city, Tafaria Castle. And wow! Calling it a “wonder” doesn’t do it justice. The architecture, the views, the atmosphere … everything felt almost unreal. But let’s talk about the highlight: the lamb chops. Oh. My. God. Easily the best lamb chops I’ve ever had! Perfectly cooked, flavorful, and unforgettable. If you know, you know!

This trip reminded me why local travel matters. You don’t always need to go far to experience magic, sometimes it’s right here at home, waiting to be explored.

Fun fact: Thompson Falls is over 70 metres high and was named after Joseph Thompson, a Scottish Explorer who discovered it in 1883 … and interestingly, he became one of the few explorers of his time to travel through East Africa without firing a single shot!
